during the Large Scale Service Project in Portland, Oregon.
Take 159 Circle K and Kiwanis-family members, plop them down for four days in a city most have never visited, and set them loose to do their thing. What do you get? More than 3,800 hours of community service known as the “LSSP.”
The 7th Annual Large Scale Service Project was staged for several days before the start of the 2007 International Convention in Portland, Oregon, during the end of July and beginning of August. Here are a few highlights from LSSP chairwoman, Jennifer Doles:

The 159 CKI and Kiwanis members came together from 27 Districts, three countries, and countless clubs.
- One project included removing ivy from the ground in a state park. “One state park volunteer told me the group he worked with finished, in a few short hours, what would have taken him more than a year to complete,” Jennifer reports.
- Other projects included making dog bones for a local animal shelter, creating alphabet coloring books for hospital waiting rooms, building bridges, pulling weeds, making trails, painting garbage cans and park benches, and making cards for sick or injured children in a Portland medical center.
- Fun times included Fellowship Day, a 70s game show, 60s Rock Around Service Gala, games, jokes, and tons of fun.
The 8th Annual Large Scale Service Project is being planned for the International convention next August in Denver, Colorado. |
