Fundraiser proves a (sticky) sweet success
When Homecoming festivities hit Florida’s Bethune-Cookman College campus, the students throw a huge party.
The annual outdoor festival, known as Goombay, is an island-themed event that overflows with fun and food. Circle K’ers—along with every group on campus—are invited to rent a table and a generator to sell food and/or services. Some clubs offer hot foods, some cold drinks. But what did the Circle K’ers serve?
“We decided to sell cotton candy and candy apples since it would be something unique,” says club president Lynda Spratley. “We rented the cotton candy maker, and a member made candy apples at home. The cotton candy was a hit—we sold about 70 cones—and we sold out of candy apples!”
Ten Circle K’ers took part in Goombay, and they donated US$75 to the Multiple Sclerosis Society’s MS Walk.
“This event was a good chance for our entire club to interact at a social event,” Lynda says. “We had tons of fun making and selling the cotton candy—even though we got a little sticky!” |
