Leadership
As one of the three tenets of CKI, Leadership development is incredibly
important. We strive to build leaders in CKI, to develop membership skills
and to improve CKI as a whole. Our members have gone on to pursue many
different careers, life paths, and futures in the Kiwanis family oftentimes
using some of the skills gleaned through our fostering of leadership in
CKI.
From club to district to international, leadership training is geared toward all members of CKI. CKI members are trained by their sponsoring Kiwanis clubs and districts, by outside facilitators and of course by other CKI members themselves.

Our officers are often trained through the Club Leadership Education (CLE) program, which is taught by Certified Instructors. Each district has Certified Instructors charged with educating the club officers with various aspects of their positions. Click here for more information about this training program. Another great resource available for club officers is the club officer guide which is available to all club officers and can help provide useful information on their roles and responsibilities. Click here to download the club officer guide.
District governors and administrators are trained at the Governor and
Administrator Training Conference (GATC). Subsequently, they train the
officers. Click here for more information
on GATC. In addition, a district officer guide exists to help explain
the district officer positional responsibilities. Click
here to download the district officer guide. Additional information
pertinent to district officers can be found here.

However, at club meetings, retreats, fall trainers, district conventions and International Convention, a great deal of other leadership training also occurs. Members have the opportunity to improve their skills through informal icebreakers, team building activities, workshops, and the many officer positions at the club, district and international levels. International Convention each year is a great opportunity to continue to build on these leadership skills. Many leaders are even recognized through International awards for their leadership throughout the year. The workshops, sessions, and keynotes help contribute to the atmosphere of leadership cultivation. More information on conventions and conferences is available in the Kiwanis family calendar.
International Speaking, a newsletter produced for CKI leadership, especially club presidents also helps provide advice and leadership tips. Each issue comes packed with information to help ensure the smooth progression of the CKI year. Click here to access these issues.
Further leadership training can be gleaned through the excellent Kiwanis
Career Contacts (KCC) program. This program is geared toward providing
training and opportunities to CKI members through partnership with our
sponsoring organization: Kiwanis. Kiwanis clubs have the opportunity to
run many different events to help their CKI counterparts gain a toehold
in the job marketplace including career mentor programs, and networking.
about KCC. However, one of the most strong aspects of the KCC program
is the Job board found in the Kiwanis Family Member Community. Here Kiwanians
can post job openings for everything from internships to full time positions
for after graduation. CKI members thus have the ability to access job
listings intended for them as members of the Kiwanis family. Click
here to visit the Member Community (requires registration.)
Finally, CKI members have the opportunity to impart their great knowledge
to others. Not only can they help educate their friends and other CKI
members, but they can also help educate and be role models for high school
students by hosting the Key to College at local high schools. This program
is intended to educate high school students, not only Key Club members,
but all high school students about the day to day life of a post-secondary
student, how to apply for college or university, and how best to manage
it all. Through Key to College, CKI members can truly help lead others
on to accomplish excellent things. Information on how to implement such
a program can be found here.
