from the 2007-08 CKI President:
One CAN Make A Difference...
Amanda Badali, President
Circle K International

Can the actions of one person truly make a difference? A survey by Kiwanis International shows an overwhelming 86 percent of North Americans think so. Kiwanis already has launched a campaign to spread the service message around the world, and Circle K is joining the effort.
The Circle K International Board met in Indianapolis recently to plan and set goals for the year. After crunching the numbers and analyzing CKI achievements for the 2006-07 service year, the Board came up with four realistic and attainable goals.
The first goal: membership of 14,001 collegians by September 30, 2008, the end of our administrative year. This goal is a six percent increase in our membership total from this year. You may wonder why our goal is 14,001 instead of just 14,000. The reason: That one extra member can make a difference.
The second goal: 450,001 service hours performed by September 30, 2008—32 hours per member. This three-hour increase per member may seem like a very steep goal I believe, though, we can reach it, because there are many members who go well beyond 32 service hours. In fact, this is the amount of service hours some perform each month.
The third goal: chartering and reactivating enough clubs to finish the administrative year with 504 active club. This figure represents just one additional club per district, including Eastern Canada, our district in formation. Only 85 percent of our chartered clubs have active status. If we increase this by just six percent, we will reach our goal.
The fourth goal: raising US$70,001—not US$70,000 as originally proposed—for the Saving Lives: The Six Cents Initiative. Why the change? Because that one dollar can make a difference. (For starters, it will mean the difference as to whether I and other members cut our hair for Locks of Love.
Though the goals may seem steep, the figure is only US$10,000 per Sub-region or, going a little further, on US$5 per member. This can and will happen. Remember: “Raise the dough and the hair will go!”
