This fall, Circle K International is continuing our support of Brick x Brick, a groundbreaking project in Côte d’Ivoire. During the month of October, we will Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF — one of UNICEF’s longest-running initiatives. And this year, we’re partnering for the first time with K-Kids to raise funds and awareness. This is your chance to advocate for children around the world and celebrate Halloween with purpose!
What is Brick x Brick?
In Côte d’Ivoire, 1.6 million children are out of school, primarily due to a lack of infrastructure, including classrooms, sanitation and health services. To help address this problem, CKI previously partnered with UNICEF USA on the WASH project, raising more than $275,000 to support clean water and hygiene initiatives. Now we’re building on that success with Brick x Brick, a campaign that tackles educational inequities and environmental degradation.
Here’s how it works: Women in Côte d’Ivoire’s communities are hired to collect plastic waste, which is then recycled into durable bricks used to construct school classrooms. UNICEF has teamed with Conceptos Plasticos, a family-run social enterprise, to create jobs, empower women and give children a safe place to learn.
In addition to classroom construction, Brick x Brick provides learning kits, teaching materials and sanitation facilities, supporting CKI’s service initiatives of childhood development and environmental justice.
How can you get involved?
This October, CKI members can team up with their local K-Kids clubs to go trick-or-treating for a good cause. Your club members can help the K-Kids explain the impact of Brick x Brick and collect donations in their UNICEF boxes.
Looking for inspiration? Search for clubs that are sharing stories from last year’s fundraisers and brainstorm new, creative ideas with your club. Whether you hold themed social, a costume contest or a pumpkin-carving fundraiser, every dollar counts. Let’s make this year’s Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign unforgettable — so we can build brighter futures for children in Côte d’Ivoire, one brick at a time.
