CKI Service Week FAQs

What is CKI Service Week?

CKI Service Week is an opportunity for all clubs to support the CKI service partners (Better World Books, March of DimesStudents Team Up to Fight Hunger and UNICEF), participate in Kiwanis One Day, and to celebrate service, leadership and fellowship.

CKI Service Week is also a chance for the incoming and outgoing club boards to work together.

Has this ever been done before?

Yes! 2010 marked the first year for CKI Service Week. The 2010 CKI Service Week was a great success. Service week is a way for clubs to change the world one community and campus at a time. Year after year, the members of CKI prove that the creation of this week was an amazing idea!

Who came up with the idea for CKI Service Week and why?

The 2008–09 Circle K International Board of Representatives thought CKI Service Week would bring CKI clubs together to do projects to benefit the organization’s service partners, bring the Kiwanis family together to make a difference with Kiwanis One Day and bring CKI together for one week to make a difference in the world. The board thought CKI needed a week to focus on what means the most to us, serving others and helping people. Committees had similar directives of promoting spirit for CKI’s service partners and the Kiwanis family.

When is CKI Service Week 2012?

CKI Service Week begins April 15, 2012 and culminates onKiwanis One Day, April 21.

Why does CKI Service Week culminate on Kiwanis One Day?

CKI Service Week incorporates Kiwanis One Day because many of the partnerships and causes CKI is passionate about are parallel with other branches of the Kiwanis family. Kiwanis One Day aims to bring the branches together of the organizations to make a difference in the world. Kiwanis One Day was added to CKI Service Week because there is no better way to wrap up a week of service than side-by-side with family members who care about helping others out just as much as we do! The Circle K International board hopes that by promoting this week of community service to CKI clubs, they will also promote Kiwanis One Day and increase CKI participation in this day of service.

Why should clubs participate in CKI Service Week 2012?

By participating in CKI Service Week, clubs will be dedicating a week of service to their communities. In all, up to 13,000 college students could participate.

CKI Service Week is a marketable event that clubs can get excited about. It’s a great event that will help clubs earn publicity, build awareness and recruit new members.

The event also is a chance for the incoming club boards and the outgoing club boards to collaborate and CKI Service Week can serve as a celebratory event.

In the Kiwanis family, CKI members perform the most community service hours per member and CKI Service Week is a chance to highlight this on college campuses and college communities around the world.

What kinds of things can clubs do to participate in CKI Service Week 2012?

Clubs can plan service projects to benefit the service partners: Better World Books, March of DimesStudents Team Up to Fight Hunger and UNICEF (Eliminate Project).

The Circle K International Service Committee has already provided many service projects ideas including several that involve CKI’s service partners and the Service Initiative: Focusing on the Future: Children.

Should CKI clubs work with other Kiwanis-family members during CKI Service Week?

YES! The CKI board encourages clubs to work with other CKI clubs in their districts, as well as other Kiwanis-family clubs. It is important for other Kiwanis family members to become excited about CKI’s service partners in a hands-on way, just as CKI members get excited about their causes and passions. The entire Kiwanis family cares about serving the children of the world and more hands means more service. The more service we perform, the greater the impact.

How should clubs participate in CKI Service Week?

What’s the main goal? The main goal is for CKI clubs to perform service, advocate and raise awareness about our service partners, and encourage their members to learn more about the Kiwanis family through participation in Kiwanis One Day on April 21, 2012.

The Circle K International board asks that each club conduct:

  • At least two projects that incorporate at least one of the service partners;
  • And participate in Kiwanis One Day, April 21, 2012;

Where can clubs find out more about CKI Service Week 2012?

The CKI Service Committee will create pieces with guidelines and suggestions, which will be available on www.circlek.org and on the Circle K Service week blog, but each club should participate in CKI Service Week by using their creativity and imagination to come up with their own service projects. Resources focusing on each of the service partners and the service initiative are available at www.circlek.org.  .

What else should CKI members and clubs know about CKI Service Week 2012?

CKI Service Week is an opportunity to get members excited about CKI’s service partners and Kiwanis One Day. It doesn’t matter if a club plans a big project or small project. At the end of the day, any service that will help children makes a huge difference and that’s something to be proud of!
